An amendment to Annex I of (MARPOL) will enter into force internationally on 1 March 2016

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority has issued Marine Notice 08/2015 titled Use or carriage of heavy grade oils in the Antarctic. The amendment applies to Regulation 43 of MARPOL Annex I and is intended to further protect the Antarctic area from pollution by heavy grade oils from ships.

AMSA issues Marine Notice 07/2015 with guidance regarding piracy and armed robbery against ships

With the uptick in incident of piracy and armed robbery in the Asian region the Australian Maritime Safety Authority issued the marine notice with recommendations, links to best practices for deterring attacks on your vessels and a useful flow diagram for how to properly report an incident and receive assistance.

AMSA Marine Notice 13/2014 Re: Safe access to and from vessels while in port

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority issued the notice to remind ship owners, ship operators, ship masters, port authorities, and terminal operators of their obligation under IMO regulations to provide a safe means of access to persons embarking or disembarking from vessels while in port.

Australia Issues an Updated Marine Notice Regarding Asbestos on Ships

The purpose of this Marine Notice is to draw the attention of operators and ship owners to the ongoing prohibition of asbestos on ships, noting that Australian law requires operators to take all reasonable steps to protect the health and safety at work of employees and contractors.
